A field roller is an agricultural trailed or mounted implement designed for rolling up soil.
There are ring-shaped, ring-spur-shaped, ring-toothed, boron-shaped, smooth water-filling, etc.
The trailed ring-spur roller consists of three sections. In each section there are 13 cast iron discs with a diameter of 500 mm, they are loosely mounted on the axle. Each disc has wedge-shaped spike spurs on both sides of the rim circumference. When the discs rotate, the soil becomes compacted, and the spurs loosen its top layer. The degree of pressure and loosening can be changed by changing the load in the ballast boxes. The width of the three sections is 5.7 m.
- The trailed ring-toothed (knife) roller consists of three sections with a total grip of 8.1 m. The working bodies are rings with toothed rims.
- The hinged roller consists of five sections. Each section has two toothed rollers mounted on rectangular frames. The frames are connected to each other by chains and are attached to the frame on which the suspension is mounted for attachment to the tractor.
- The smooth water-filling roller consists of three hollow metal drums with a length of 1.4 m and a diameter of 0.7 m. Their capacity is 500 liters. By changing the amount of water, the pressure on the soil can be adjusted. The capture width is 4 m.
Before sowing, the soil is rolled in to level the field surface and seal. Rolling after sowing ensures better contact of the seeds with the ground and draws moisture from the lower layers of the soil. Rolling in a loose layer prevents it from settling during watering or plant growth. In order to retain moisture after rolling, the top layer must be loosened by 3-4 cm.
